In the towering InCity Shopping Center on Xiandai Avenue, it's often tough sorting through all of the flashy new Chinese restaurants on the fourth floor. I've slowly worked my way through them, with varying results. My most recent attempt was Xiang Xiang Guo.
Xiang Xiang Guo specializes in Sichuan dry pot. What is dry pot? Dry pot is usually a combination of vegetables and meat, stir fried, and served in a wok with seasoned, usually spicy, oil. It's called dry pot because it lacks the soup of hot pot, which is why I personally prefer it. They offer three main meat choices for dry pot, which are frog, crab, and shrimp with bacon. You then choose your choice of vegetables. I always opt for the frog pot with potatoes, cauliflower, rice sticks, and tofu, medium spicy. It's huge and very reasonable at 78rmb. The frog is incredibly tender, and their seasoning blend is just strong enough to let you still taste the food. The crab and shrimp pots are also good, but be prepared for a little bit more work and mess getting the meat out. A great side item to try is their fried sliced pumpkin. I've never had anything like it. If you like pumpkin, this’ll be right up your alley.
Parking is easy if you don't mind parking in the garage. Getting taxis is almost always not a problem. Not to mention, it's a great spot for date night before a movie. It's classy without being too expensive, which will help you not look like a cheap-o for a change. Yeah, she notices. That's why you're alone.
