Shiquan Street is known for its variety of eateries. You've got your Korean, your burgers, your Xinjiang noodles, your Indian... the list goes on and on. As we strolled down the street looking for some grub, we found ourselves in the mood for something a little spicy. The best way to find a good restaurant is to look for the most crowded ones during mealtime. We found what we were looking for in Tian Fu Zhi Le.

Now, we all know regional food changes from place to place to pacify the local yocals. Sichuan cuisine is hot normally, but because we are in Suzhou, the food is also a bit sweet in this restaurant. Take for instance the first dish we ordered, Fried Diced Beef with the Flavor of Glutonous Rice (that's what they called it). It was the best dish of the evening but not a bit spicy. The cubed beef was tender, the glutonous rice (also cubed) chewy, and the pine nuts added a nice crunchy texture to round it off. All were cooked in a slightly sweet sauce. Delish! The Savoury Spicy and Hot Soup was another favorite.

Yes, Tian Fu Zhi Le is always crowded and a bit noisy, but the service and food are good, and the bill is not difficult to take care of at all. We got five dishes and only shelled out 90 kuai. All in all, this is a very good choice to spice things up down on Shiquan street. There's a second location on Suihui road as well. English and picture menu available.
